Non-stop bites all day long! Michael and I launched early morning for our fall river adventure under partly cloudy skies in the Buckmarsh District waters. The conditions were perfect for our 1 Day or 2 Days River Float Fishing Adventure with Captain Travis through King Fisher Guide Services.

Once the stage was set, we worked the river using drift fishing and bottom bouncing techniques to target the deeper holes where Smallmouth Bass and Walleye were holding. Michael connected with several solid Smallmouth Bass throughout the morning, and we picked up some nice Walleye using spinner casting along the current breaks. The Buckmarsh District waters are ideal for these techniques because the river structure and flow create perfect ambush points for both species. We wrapped up the trip with great catches and smiles all around!

 Anglers report good catches of bass in the early morning and late afternoon, particularly around rocky structures and submerged vegetation. Topwater lures and soft plastics are producing favorable results. Sunfish are active near shoreline cover, biting on small jigs and live bait. Catfish action is steady in deeper pools and near submerged logs, with chicken liver and cut bait proving effective.

This is when Smallmouth Bass begin the ritual and become very aggressive and they will bite most anything that gets close to them. this is a great time to catch a trophy on both the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers. don't wait before it's too late!&nbsp;</div>

Making a wish come true

<div>Long time Fly Fishing Client Joel booked us for a last minute solo angler trip. It was a beautiful day and everything felt right about fishing the Shenandoah River. I had been wanting to get Joel out on a stretch that he had only fished once in the 7 or 8 years he's been fishing with me. The day started a little slow but with a few fly changes we began to get into some Smallmouth Bass. When we hoped into the first ledge system the first cast landed a 20.50" 4lb post spawn Smallmouth Bass. Joel's first 20 with me. The water was skinny in the ledges and he did exactly what any seasoned Fly Guy could do to keep the fish off a life time from running into rocks to break him off. With in an hour he had another 20" Shenandoah Smallie in the boat! our was an epic day!&nbsp;</div>

<div>Took my Partner in Slime and another friend down the Shenandoah for a fun trip a bus man's holiday if you will. It was a beautiful day and we boated over 80 fish. The largest came out before lunch time. An area between ledges that we had thrown to many times with flukes, swimbaits and tubes. We pulled a quite a few fish out of this hole but nothing to write home about. I switched up baits putting the tube away and tying on a new to me Deps Cover Scat. Wham Bam Thank you ma'am 21"s and 5lbs of Tug. We had lots of worthy fish and numbers ta boot!</div>

<div>The Weather Forecast was calling for some rain in the morning. And it did just that starting out light with a few periods of heavier precipitation. the water was stained but not heavy. The game plan was flukes for running and gunning and tubes for when we were set up and stationary. Even though we had rain which eventually turned to a sunny day, we made it happen. And boated more than 40 fish!&nbsp;</div>

The weather is warming up and so is the Smallmouth Bass fishing on the Shenandoah River. Lots of back seat boat action going on. When you're in the zone, you are in the zone! Summer is winding down! 

<div>The days are getting shorter and the nights are getting longer. Water temps have dropped from the Mid 80s to the Mud 70s. Smallmouth are trying to fatten up for the Winter lull. Topwater is still a big hit on the river especially in the afternoon and evening hours Water levels have dropped someand currently we're seeing clearer water. Al sank this tank of a fish on Topwater! Book your trip soon before the leaves fall or time it when the leaves on the Blue Ridge are in full peak color!&nbsp;</div>

This was an epic topwater bite on the fly! When you watch the fly and out of the depths emerges a dark shadow you realize it's a quality Smallmouth. Then you see the take and your guy sets the hook. The fight, the bend in the rod the fish leaping out of the water then finally landing in the net! It may not be the biggest but it was my client's biggest freshwater fish. Just an epic moment in time not to be forgotten! The topwater bite is on! Get in on the action there's still time. The Potomac River has been on fire, we have been fishing for bass on the topwater and the bite has been excellent!
